PREVIOUSLY, May 26: Showtime Documentary Films unveiled a new docu feature from Oscar-winning director Errol Morris (Wormwood, The Fog of War) that will spotlight the polarizing psychedelic drug advocate Timothy Leary. The docu, which currently has the working title of A Film By Errol Morris will debut later this year on Showtime.

Known as the High Priest of LSD, the docu will dive deep into why he became a narc in 1974 and turned his back on the millions he urged to turn on, tune in and drop out. The feature will also dive into his relationship with his “perfect love” Joanna Harcourt-Smith, who Allen Ginsberg suggested was a government pawn. With Morris, Harcourt-Smith will reexamine the chaotic period of her life and explore the mystery of the Leary saga, including his period of exile, reimprisonment and subsequent cooperation with the authorities. The film is inspired by Harcourt-Smith’s memoir, Tripping the Bardo with Timothy Leary: My Psychedelic Love Story.

“This is a dream project,” said Morris. “I’m always looking for alternative ways into a story. You never want to go through the front door. Or even the back door. Much better to find an attic window that has been left ajar.”

He adds, “Joanna Harcourt-Smith, who had a love affair with Timothy Leary, wrote a book detailing how they met, how they fell in love, how they took drugs together, how he ended up in prison. I’m excited to be working with Showtime and I can’t believe my good fortune.”

The film comprises of one long interview with Harcourt-Smith as she recalls a tumultuous period in the 1970s in which Leary had escaped prison, having been convicted for 20 years for marijuana possession. The documentary not only delves into Harcourt-Smith’s whirlwind experience of being with the man Richard Nixon once called “the most dangerous man in America” but also how her efforts to ensure Leary’s freedom involved her working with the FBI.

Law of Attraction worksheets are one of my favorite things!

I use Law of Attraction worksheets to help me stay focused and at a high vibration.

There are so many times I use them – when I feel overwhelmed, when I feel like resistance or limiting beliefs are coming up, when I feel sad, angry, or anxious… A worksheet helps me turn things right around.

I will admit that there have been times when I have created a really great worksheet that made me feel like I could manifest anything, and then nothing happened. Sometimes I ended up not using it, or I filled it out but didn’t take action towards manifesting my desires. For me, it was always a sign that I wasn’t truly aligned with my desire and needed to work on clearing resistance.

In my years of creating and using Law of Attraction worksheets, I’ve noticed some things that make a worksheet truly effective at skyrocketing your Law of Attraction results. I wanted to share them with you today in case you wanted some ways to use worksheets more effectively. And if you’re completely new to worksheets, I also have some free ones you can download to get started.

How Law of Attraction Worksheets Speed Up Results

1. Worksheets raise your vibration

It amazes me how smooth and productive my day is when I complete my Manifesting My Day worksheet. It helps me to not feel overwhelmed by anything I have to do, helps me to free up time to get more things done, and helps me to intentionally decide how I want my day to go. I also love how I can choose to only focus on those tasks I enjoy, and assign the tasks I don’t care for to the Universe to magically take care of themselves.

Law of Attraction worksheets can be a great way to only focus on things that make you happy and keep your vibration high!

2. They remind you of your progress

I like to print my worksheets and keep them in a binder. When I get discouraged or notice my vibration is low, I look back over my worksheets. They instantly show me how far I’ve come and how many wonderful things I have manifested. Even on the days that I only manage small steps towards my goal, I can look back over all my worksheets and see how much progress I’ve really made, and how I close I actually am to manifesting my goal. I love to spend a few minutes of each day completing gratitude printables for this reason. It’s so easy to complain that time is passing and nothing is happening. When I look back over my printables, I see how much has actually occurred, and that I’m definitely closer to my goal.

Seeing how far you’ve come helps propel you towards your goals as you see signs that you are indeed manifesting your desires.

3. They make it easier to stay focused and take inspired action.

This is the most helpful reason for me! My mind is often thinking about 100 things at once, coming up with new ideas, thinking of what I need, planning what I have to do, etc. Having Law of Attraction worksheets helps me keep everything organized so that I can 1) stay focused on manifesting my goals and 2) take inspired action. I can just glance at a worksheet to get me back on track with what I’m creating. Otherwise, I can feel so overwhelmed I either don’t take action or the action I take isn’t inspired action.

Some Important Things to Be Aware of When Using Worksheets

Before you dive in, I want you to be aware of two ways worksheets can block your Law of Attraction results.

1. Too many new worksheets are hard to implement at the same time

Perhaps you handle change better than I do, but I’ve found that when I start to introduce too many new concepts and elements to my manifesting routine, I can’t keep up.

I remember when I first started trying to introduce someone’s 25-step-morning-manifesting-routine into my life. Okay, maybe it wasn’t 25 steps, but it sure felt that way. I was so excited to start using it because it had many wonderful promises and testimonials. I couldn’t wait to see how his process could improve my results. Do you know how long I stuck with it? Only 2-3 days. It was overwhelming!

I was trying to get up early every day to jump around, imagine money falling from the sky, complete one worksheet after another… It was so much at once, I couldn’t commit to everything.

I have had success, however, when I apply one new worksheet at a time. I like to commit to using a new one for a certain period of time, such as a week or two. At that point, it becomes a part of my routine and I can tell whether it is improving my results or not. When I’m ready, I’ll add another worksheet.

2. Worksheets can be a tool to not manifest your desires

Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the trap of completing worksheets because you feel like you’re taking action to manifest your desires when you’re really avoiding taking tangible steps. Sometimes you may even see them as a tool or technique that will make your desires manifest faster when you’re really using them to avoid looking at resistance that’s blocking you from achieving your goals.

Who is Satan?

Satan is a horrible creature. He is repulsive to look at, horns, tail, pitchfork etc. This is the picture of Satan that we are most familiar with. If we actually look into what the Bible says about him, we see that nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact this is a very dangerous misrepresentation. In Ezekiel 28:12-19 we have a true picture of Satan. “You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty . . . You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you . . . you were perfect in your ways from the day you were created.”

This sounds nothing like the typical image of Satan that many people have. He was in fact an anointed cherub. He sat in heaven, a being of the highest rank and exalted position. Created by God as the “seal of perfection.”

Satan’s fall

But Satan turned his eyes away from his Creator and began to admire the creation; himself. “You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor.” (Ezekiel 28:17) He became proud and exalted himself; a desire to rule was born in him. He wished to put himself in God’s place. He whispered lies until he had a third of the hosts of heaven on his side.

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation … I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’” Isaiah 14:12-15.

The problem began with this “I will”. Satan turned from hearing God’s voice and began to seek his own will. To put another will over God’s is to say that His will is not perfect. When Satan said, “I will”, sin began. (What is sin?)God calls Himself by name, saying, “I AM.” (Exodus 3:14) He does not give this name to anyone else. The one who wants to be something in himself is therefore in conflict with God, and is expelled.

“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:7-9.

So Satan was cast out of heaven, and now God’s absolute goodness, wisdom, and love must never be brought into question again. It must be proved that God’s will is the only good and perfect way. So Satan received dominion over this world, and his purpose is to set himself as the god of this earth. The world is not under the direct control of God, but of Satan, who received practically a free hand to do as he pleases. Jesus calls Satan, “the ruler of this world.” John 12:31. The Apostle Paul calls him “the god of this age.” 2 Corinthians 4:4. This is God’s plan to provide full proof of the deceitfulness of sin. It must be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Satan’s way will only lead to death and destruction.

Most of the world is not aware of the fact that they are “under the sway of the wicked one.” 1 John 5:19. He uses their inherent pride to occupy them with themselves and their greatness, and this has affected every aspect of humanity. His goal is for mankind to be so sure of their human abilities that it precludes all need for God. Satan's nature hasn't changed. He still wants to be greater than God and his aim is to bring everything and everyone under his sway. He still whispers his lies into every ear, sowing pride and doubt, just as he did while he was in heaven.

Opponents of Satan

Yet, God keeps stretching out His hand and preventing Satan from carrying out his plans completely. He sent Jesus to open up another way for mankind to follow. Throughout the earth there are those who have given up their own will to follow their Saviour and who believe in God’s perfect will. Together these faithful souls form the Church of God. This group is the thorn in Satan’s side. He works to bring doubt, pride, division, or whatever he can to turn people’s hearts from God.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8. He is searching furiously, he wants complete control over this earth, and he will attack wherever he can to bring his plan to fruition. But for all those with a heart for God, it is possible to resist him.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might … Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:10-17.

Because of this power that is available, there are those throughout the world who stand against Satan’s deceit, overcome sin, and shine as a light in this dark and evil world. These are the ones who are proving by their faithfulness that God’s way is perfect, while the rest of mankind proves that Satan’s way, this proud “I will”, only leads to destruction. When this world has passed away, it will be God’s will that stands for all eternity. Satan, the great deceiver, will finally be thrown into the lake of fire for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)

Upper levels also bring in new angles and other obstacles that will keep your balls from going exactly where you want. Though the game is frustrating and repetitive at times, it is one that you can beat.

NamUs 2.0 Database Application

The NamUs database fills an overwhelming need for a central repository of information related to missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases. The database is searchable by all, with biometric and other secure case information accessible only to appropriate, vetted criminal justice users.

Missing person records can be entered into NamUs by anyone, including the general public; however, all cases are verified with the appropriate law enforcement agency prior to publication in NamUs.

Unidentified and unclaimed person records are entered into the NamUs database by medical examiners, coroners, and other criminal justice designees.

Missing and unidentified person cases in NamUs are automatically compared to locate potential matches based on dates, geography, and core demographic information. Advanced searches can be performed to locate matches based on additional unique descriptors such as scars, marks, tattoos, clothing, jewelry, etc.

Regional Program Specialists

NamUs Regional Program Specialist (RPS) hold Department of Justice security clearances and are experienced professionals from the criminal justice and/or forensic science communities.

RPSs provide investigative support to missing, unidentified, and unclaimed persons by providing case consultations, assisting with the collection of biometric information, facilitating NamUs forensic services, and providing training and guidance on the effective use of the NamUs 2.0 database application.

Analytical Division

The NamUs Analytical Division provides case support to the Regional Program Specialist team and criminal justice agencies across the country. The NamUs Analytical Division utilizes nongovernmental criminal justice databases and advanced search techniques to provide:

Indication of life for persons reported missing to NamUs

DNA Analysis

The UNT Center for Human Identification’s Missing Person’s Unit performs nuclear and mitochondrial DNA analyses to assist with the identification of missing and unidentified person cases.

In addition to nuclear DNA, UNTCHI is one of a small number of laboratories capable of developing and uploading mitochondrial DNA profiles to CODIS.

Fingerprints

Fingerprints are a widely recognized and cost-effective biometric marker. They are a reliable means of personal identification that enable rapid comparisons – when submitted to NamUs, fingerprints are immediately available for comparisons that can result in positive identifications or exclusions.

The NamUs Fingerprint/AFIS Unit assists with scanning, classifying, uploading, analyzing, and comparing fingerprint information submitted to NamUs. All fingerprint images provided to NamUs are also digitized and uploaded to an internal AFIS database for searching and comparison, and all unidentified decedent prints are also submitted to the FBI’s Latent Print Unit for searching in the national Next Generation Identification (NGI) database.

Forensic Odontology

Law enforcement, medical examiners, and coroners rely on dental records to establish legal and verifiable identifications of missing and unidentified persons. Dental records provide an opportunity to make rapid, cost-effective, detailed comparison between individuals for inclusions or exclusions of potential matches. Agencies can directly upload dental information for missing and unidentified person cases to NamUs, which is a secure, central repository.

NamUs forensic odontologists can also be contacted to digitally scan, code, and upload information to NamUs cases on behalf of investigating agencies. All dental information uploaded to NamUs is available for 24/7 professional comparisons. NamUs odontologists also complete NCIC dental worksheets that allow agencies to upload accurate and complete dental information to NCIC.

Forensic Anthropology

The UNTCHI’s Forensic Anthropology Laboratory provides the following analyses of skeletal remains to investigating agencies:

Determination of forensic significance and postmortem interval estimations
Development of demographic profiles – such as sex, ancestry, stature, and age – to aide searches for possible matches
Identifications of skeletal remains based on comparisons of medical and radiographic information
Trauma analysis to contribute to cause and manner of death determinations

Step 2: Create Windows 10 Installation Media

Traditionally, users download the ISO files of Windows 10, burn them to DVD via third-party software, and then install Windows 10 from DVD. Now things get much easier, Microsoft offers a user-friendly Microsoft Media Creation Tool to help you get the installation media ready.

1. Click Here to download this tool and run it. When asked, accept Microsoft software license terms and then choose “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC” before you click Next.

2. The wizard will ask you to select Language, Windows Edition and Architecture. You can accept the recommended options or make your own choice. Then click Next.

3. In this step, you need to choose either to create a Windows 10 install USB or to extract the ISO file (you will need to burn it to a DVD later by yourself). It’s up to you. Here take the former one for an example. Just prepare a USB drive that is large enough (at least 8GB) and click Next.

4. Select the removable drive from the list when asked, and make sure you've copied any files you want to keep off it because it will be formatted during the process of creating Windows installation media. Click Next to continue.

5. The tool will start downloading Windows 10 as well as any available updates to your USB drive and make it bootable, which allows you to install Windows 10 later.

6. When the process is successful, you'll see a message that reads 'Your USB flash drive is ready'. At this time, click Finish to exit.

Step 3: Install Windows 10 on SSD/HDD

With Windows 10 installation media, how to install Windows 10 from USB? Please follow the detailed instructions below:

1. Insert the drive into the PC or laptop onto which you want to install Windows 10. Then turn on the computer and it should boot from the flash drive. If not, enter the BIOS and ensure the computer is set to boot from the USB drive (using the arrow keys to put it in the first place in the boot sequence).

2. When the computer does boot from the USB drive, you'll see a Windows logo, followed by a language selection. Confirm the language to install, time and currency format, and keyboard or input method. Then click Next.

3. Click Install now.

4. You will be asked to enter the license key, do as you are required. (You can also click “I don’t have a product key” to skip and choose the Windows 10 edition you want. By ignoring, you will be required to enter the license key later.)

5. Accept the license terms and click Next.

6. Here you need to make your own choice. We just take the latter one for example.

[Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings, and applications]: This option will keep all your files, settings and applications saved in the system partition there. However, note that it is only available when a supported version of Windows is already running on the computer.
[Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)]: This will remove all your files, settings and applications and give you a clean install of Windows 10. Choose this option if you want to wipe your hard drive and make a fresh start, or you are installing Windows 10 on a new hard drive. We recommend backing up your files before you continue.

7. What you'll see in the next screen depends. But overall, you need to choose a location and click Next to install Windows 10.

Situation A: If you only have a new drive connected, you will see a Drive 0 Unallocated Space listed there. To install Windows 10 on a new hard drive, just select it and click Next to install Windows 10 on new hard drive.

Situation B: If you have got more than one hard drive connected to your PC, you'll be shown a screen with several drives called “Drive 0”, “Drive 1” and so on. And if a drive is already partitioned, you will see “Drive 0 Partition 1”, “Drive 0 Partition 2”, “Drive 0 Unallocated Space”, and so on.

In Situation B, you have 2 options, that are to install Windows 10 on the original system partition or to delete all partitions (by selecting each one and clicking the Delete option) to go back to Situation A to install Windows 10. This will erase all data on the partitions, so double-check that you're deleting partitions from the correct drive and you're absolutely sure you've already backed up everything you need.

Tip: When you press Next to install, you may receive some errors that prevent the installation, such as Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Please pay attention to the error message and try to find the solution.

8. Windows will then start the installation process. Mostly, the installation is automatic, but keep an eye on it and answer any questions you're asked.

What Is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Historically, binge eating disorder (BED) has been the least diagnosed and unrecognized eating disorder; and yet, in the United States, 3-5% of women, about 5 million, and 2% of men, 3 million, struggle with BED¹.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships. DBT specifically focuses on providing therapeutic skills in. Eating a greater amount of food in a fixed period of time (e.g., 2 hours) than what most people would eat in the same time period. Dialectical behavior therapy skills training reduces binge eating among patients seeking weight-management services: preliminary evidence. Mushquash AR (1), McMahan M. Mallory has developed and facilitated multiple binge eating disorder groups on an outpatient level, utilizing mindfulness-based approaches, intuitive eating, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), “All foods fit model,” and a Health at Every Size Approach (HAES). Mallory currently practices under the direct supervision of Dr. She is currently working toward her LCSW and her Certified Eating Disorder. Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Binge Eating and Bulimia helps to ensure patients can effectively use their coping skills to manage their stress levels and remain recovered through the years. The DBT therapy sessions also help to identify disordered thought patterns and behaviors affecting.

Those with this disorder consume an extreme amount of food, usually quite rapidly. They often conduct this behavior alone and subsequently experience a high level of guilt, knowing that the behavior is not “normal.”

Why Do People Engage in Binge Eating?

People engage in binge eating primarily because of pain, emotional pain. The extent of this pain can be as vast and diverse as the people themselves. A man may have been seriously neglected or abused by his mother as a young child; a woman may have experienced a sexual assault as a college student. Photography logos.

Although the event is long past, the pain lingers, possibly in the form of vivid memories, or even flashbacks. The pain is enormous; the individual feels defenseless against it. To cope and manage the experience, the person turns to food.

This type of food consumption has nothing to do with physical hunger; a person engaging in a binge does so as a solution to their pain. This behavior not only proves effective, it is addictive.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy in the Treatment of BED

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a form of integrated treatment combining behavioral, cognitive, and supportive therapies; it emphasizes teaching each woman how to experience her emotions and create a life worth living. The driving force behind DBT is the concept that acceptance and change can exist simultaneously.

DBT is extremely effective in the treatment of BED. Binge eating is an avoidant behavior–the intent is to avoid emotional pain. DBT does not seek to fix, change or control emotions; instead this therapeutic approach helps an individual accept and cope.

DBT consists of four components; each plays a vital role in helping a person with BED. The first two components connect to the acceptance piece, while the second two are related to the change piece.

Mindfulness/Distress Tolerance

Mindfulness is concerned with the here and now. It urges the individual to be fully present in the moment; this necessitates accepting the emotions associated with that moment. Say an adolescent is very hurt by what a peer said about her on Facebook.

Controlling an Emotional Experience

A person who has BED may react by consuming an entire package of cookies to help control her emotional experience. Conversely, the mindful response is to acknowledge the feelings and experience them.

This means noticing and feeling the hurt. The degree to which she can “sit with the feelings” depends on many variables such as age, individual temperament, the length of time she has used food to cope, etc.

Distress Tolerance Techniques

The hope is that as time passes, the pain will diminish. If, however, it escalates and begins to manifest in other symptoms such as sweating or escalated heart rate, then distress tolerance techniques may be added.

This may be something like taking a walk, petting a dog or sewing. These strategies are not designed to negate or erase the emotions, but to add to the emotional experience in a way that helps make it more manageable.

Emotion Regulation/Interpersonal Effectiveness

Emotions are a very normal part of being human; throughout our day, we experience a wide variety of feelings. It is important for us to notice and have our emotions because they are like little messengers that provide information.

As an example, certain advertisements or greeting cards may cause unexpected tears. Emotion regulation means the person accepts the brief emotion, then brushes the tears away and goes on with her life. However, if an individual is emotionally deregulated, she might succumb to a crippling crying jag that lasts for hours.

Consuming Balance for Emotional Regulation

To a large degree, emotion regulation is predicated on balance. It is as simple as consuming a well-balanced diet, getting adequate sleep, maintaining a healthy exercise regimen. This idea of wellness extends to building positive daily experiences, cultivating gratitude and spending time with joyful, affirming people, while eliminating experiences and people that do not honor our values.

Whereas we can’t decide when or to what degree emotions will present themselves, we can regulate the environment into which emotion is expressed.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

In tandem with regulation, DBT fosters interpersonal effectiveness. Essentially, this is the skill of clear and concise communication. In the previous example of the hurtful Facebook post, instead of self-harming by eating excessively, the individual assertively addresses the issue with the offender.

This involves using “I” statements like “I feel” or “I need.” Verbalizing is the opposite of stuffing and is as healthy as the other is unhealthy. Interpersonal effectiveness isn’t about being right, it is about being heard.

The goal of DBT is for an individual to first define what a meaningful life looks like for her, then second, go ahead and live that life every day. An illness like BED is absolutely contrary to this notion; it will never be part of a meaningful life. Fortunately, with the proper help, a healthy relationship with food can be restored.

Overview[edit]

In the poem, an albatross starts to follow a ship — being followed by an albatross was generally considered a sign of good luck. However, the titular mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, which is regarded as an act that will curse the ship (which indeed suffers terrible mishaps). Even when they are too thirsty to speak, the ship's crew let the mariner know through their glances that they blame his action for the curse. The bird is placed on the sailor's neck by shipmates to show the guilt in killing it. Therefore, the albatross can be both an omen of good or bad luck, as well as a metaphor for a burden to be carried as penance.

This sense is catalogued in the Oxford English Dictionary from 1936 and 1955, but it seems only to have entered general usage in the 1960s, or possibly as early as 1959.

Also, the word albatross is used in Letter II, Volume One of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, in which Robert Walton is speaking to his sister and states, '…but I shall kill no albatross…', an allusion quite clearly referring to the poem by her close acquaintance, Coleridge. The novel was first published in 1818, long before the term was introduced into the Oxford Dictionary.

Charles Baudelaire's collection of poems Les Fleurs du mal contains a poem entitled 'L'albatros' (1857) about men on ships who catch the albatrosses for sport. In the final stanza, he goes on to compare the poets to the birds — exiled from the skies and then weighed down by their giant wings, till death.

Finally, in Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. Here is a reference to Coleridge's albatross^[2]

In the 1939 film The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, Professor Moriarty (George Zucco) baits Holmes by mailing him a drawing of a man with an albatross hung around his neck.
In the 1940 film The Sea Hawk starring Errol Flynn, Albatross is the name of Captain Thorpe's pirate ship.
In the 1979 film The Fog by John Carpenter, a radio-station promo is possessed by ghostly forces to speak out and the word albatross is used to tell of the curse on Antonio Bay.
In the 1996 Ridley Scott film White Squall, a fictionalized account of the Ocean Academy's ship Albatross, the ship's captain Christopher Sheldon makes mention of the albatross being a very good omen which 'embodied the spirits of lost sailors'. 'Only bad luck if you kill one,' he added.
In the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, as the wind picks up and the ship finally breaks out of the doldrums, an albatross is spotted following the ship. When an attempt is made to shoot the bird, the ship's doctor is shot instead.
In the 2005 Joss Whedon film Serenity, Malcolm Reynolds, the captain of Serenity defends the notion that River Tam is an albatross to the crew and later to the Operative. He says that the albatross was good luck until 'some idiot killed it'. When Malcolm is speaking, he then adds to Inara, 'Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint' in a reference to the Coleridge poem. At the end of the film, he calls River 'Little Albatross'.

In the 2014 film Against the Sun, Gene shoots an albatross, which they eat. Chief Dixon is notably upset about this, saying, 'I can't believe you shot an albatross.'

I. Ancient Armenian.
1. Circumstances under Which Made:
Armenia was in large measure Christianized by Gregory Lousavorich ('the Illuminator': consecrated 302 A.D.; died 332), but, as Armenian had not been reduced to writing, the Scriptures used to be read in some places in Greek, in others in Syriac, and translated orally to the people. A knowledge of these tongues and the training of teachers were kept up by the schools which Gregory and King Tiridates had established at the capital Vagharshapat and elsewhere. As far as there was any Christianity in Armenia before Gregory's time, it had been almost exclusively under Syrian influence, from Edessa and Samosata. Gregory introduced Greek influence and culture, though maintaining bonds of union with Syria also.
When King Sapor of Persia became master of Armenia (378 A.D.), he not only persecuted the Christians most cruelly, but also, for political reasons, endeavored to prevent Armenia from all contact with the Byzantine world. Hence his viceroy, the renegade Armenian Merouzhan, closed the schools, proscribed Greek learning, and burnt all Greek books, especially the Scriptures. Syriac books were spared, just as in Persia itself; but in many cases the clergy were unable to interpret them to their people. Persecution had not crushed out Christianity, but there was danger lest it should perish through want of the Word of God. Hence several attempts were made to translate the Bible into Armenian. It is said that Chrysostom, during his exile at Cucusus (404-407 A.D.), invented an Armenian alphabet and translated the Psalter, but this is doubtful. But when Arcadius ceded almost all Armenia to Sapor about 396 A.D., something had to be done. Hence in 397 the celebrated Mesrob Mashtots and Isaac (Sachak) the Catholicos resolved to translate the Bible. Mesrob had been a court secretary, and as such was well acquainted with Pahlavi, Syriac and Greek, in which three languages the royal edicts were then published. Isaac had been born at Constantinople and educated there and at Caesarea. Hence he too was a good Greek scholar, besides being versed in Syriac and Pahlavi, which latter was then the court language in Armenia. But none of these three alphabets was suited to express the sounds of the Armenian tongue, and hence, an alphabet had to be devised for it.
2. The Translators:
A council of the nobility, bishops and leading clergy was held at Vagharshapat in 402, King Vramshapouch being present, and this council requested Isaac to translate the Scriptures into the vernacular. By 406, Mesrob had succeeded in inventing an alphabet-practically the one still in use-principally by modifying the Greek and the Pahlavi characters, though some think the Palmyrene alphabet had influence. He and two of his pupils at Samosata began by translating the Book of Proverbs, and then the New Testament, from the Greek Meanwhile, being unable to find a single Greek manuscript in the country, Isaac translated the church lessons from the Peshitta Syriac, and published this version in 411. He sent two of his pupils to Constantinople for copies of the Greek Bible. These men were present at the Council of Ephesus, 431 A.D. Probably Theodoret (De Cura Graec. Affect., I, 5) learned from them what he says about the existence of the Bible in Armenian. Isaac's messengers brought him copies of the Greek Bible from the Imperial Library at Constantinople-doubtless some of those prepared by Eusebius at Constantine's command. Mesrob Mashtots and Isaac, with their assistants, finished and published the Armenian (ancient) version of the whole Bible in 436. La Croze is justified in styling it Queen of versions Unfortunately the Old Testament was rendered (as we have said) from the Septuagint, not from the Hebrew. But the Apocrypha was not translated, only 'the 22 Books' of the Old Testament, as Moses of Khorene informs us. This was due to the influence of the Peshitta Old Testament.
Apocrypha Omitted.
Not till the 8th century was the Apocrypha rendered into Armenian: it was not read in Armenian churches until the 12th. Theodotion's version of Daniel was translated, instead of the very inaccurate Septuagint. The Alexandrine text was generally followed but not always.
3. Revision:
In the 6th century the Armenian version is said to have been revised so as to agree with the Peshitta. Hence, probably in Matthew 28:18 the King James Version, the passage, 'As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you,' is inserted as in the Peshitta, though it occurs also in its proper place (John 20:21). It reads 'Jesus Barabbas' in Matthew 27:16, 17 -a reading which Origen found 'in very ancient manuscripts.' It contains Luke 22:43, 44. As is well known, in the Etschmiadzin manuscript of 986 A.D., over Mark 16:9-20, are inserted the words, 'of Ariston the presbyter'; but Nestle (Text. Criticism of the Greek New Testament, Plate IX, etc.) and others omit to notice that these words are by a different and a later hand, and are merely an unauthorized remark of no great value.
4. Results of Circulation:
Mesrob's version was soon widely circulated and became the one great national book. Lazarus Pharpetsi, a contemporary Armenian historian, says he is justified in describing the spiritual results by quoting Isaiah and saying that the whole land of Armenia was thereby 'filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.' But for it, both church and nation would have perished in the terrible persecutions which have now lasted, with intervals, for more than a millennium and a half.

This version was first printed somewhat late: the Psalter at Rome in 1565, the Bible by Bishop Oskan of Erivan at Amsterdam in 1666, from a very defective MS; other editions at Constantinople in 1705, Venice in 1733. Photography Definition

General considerations

As a means of visual communication and expression, photography has distinct aesthetic capabilities. In order to understand them, one must first understand the characteristics of the process itself. One of the most important characteristics is immediacy. Usually, but not necessarily, the image that is recorded is formed by a lens in a camera. Upon exposure to the light forming the image, the sensitive material undergoes changes in its structure, a latent (but reversed) image usually called a negative is formed, and the image becomes visible by development and permanent by fixing with sodium thiosulfate, called “hypo.” With modern materials, the processing may take place immediately or may be delayed for weeks or months.

The essential elements of the image are usually established immediately at the time of exposure. This characteristic is unique to photography and sets it apart from other ways of picture making. The seemingly automatic recording of an image by photography has given the process a sense of authenticity shared by no other picture-making technique. The photograph possesses, in the popular mind, such apparent accuracy that the adage “the camera does not lie” has become an accepted, if erroneous, cliché.

This understanding of photography’s supposed objectivity has dominated evaluations of its role in the arts. In the early part of its history, photography was sometimes belittled as a mechanical art because of its dependence on technology. In truth, however, photography is not the automatic process that is implied by the use of a camera. Although the camera usually limits the photographer to depicting existing objects rather than imaginary or interpretive views, the skilled photographer can introduce creativity into the mechanical reproduction process. The image can be modified by different lenses and filters. The type of sensitive material used to record the image is a further control, and the contrast between highlight and shadow can be changed by variations in development. In printing the negative, the photographer has a wide choice in the physical surface of the paper, the tonal contrast, and the image colour. The photographer also may set up a completely artificial scene to photograph.

The most important control is, of course, the creative photographer’s vision. He or she chooses the vantage point and the exact moment of exposure. The photographer perceives the essential qualities of the subject and interprets it according to his or her judgment, taste, and involvement. An effective photograph can disseminate information about humanity and nature, record the visible world, and extend human knowledge and understanding. For all these reasons, photography has aptly been called the most important invention since the printing press.

Inventing the medium

Antecedents

The forerunner of the camera was the camera obscura, a dark chamber or room with a hole (later a lens) in one wall, through which images of objects outside the room were projected on the opposite wall. The principle was probably known to the Chinese and to ancient Greeks such as Aristotle more than 2,000 years ago. Late in the 16th century, the Italian scientist and writer Giambattista della Porta demonstrated and described in detail the use of a camera obscura with a lens. While artists in subsequent centuries commonly used variations on the camera obscura to create images they could trace, the results from these devices depended on the artist’s drawing skills, and so scientists continued to search for a method to reproduce images completely mechanically.

In 1727 the German professor of anatomy Johann Heinrich Schulze proved that the darkening of silver salts, a phenomenon known since the 16th century and possibly earlier, was caused by light and not heat. He demonstrated the fact by using sunlight to record words on the salts, but he made no attempt to preserve the images permanently. His discovery, in combination with the camera obscura, provided the basic technology necessary for photography. It was not until the early 19th century, however, that photography actually came into being.

Early experiments

Nicéphore Niépce, an amateur inventor living near Chalon-sur-Saône, a city 189 miles (304 km) southeast of Paris, was interested in lithography, a process in which drawings are copied or drawn by hand onto lithographic stone and then printed in ink. Not artistically trained, Niépce devised a method by which light could draw the pictures he needed. He oiled an engraving to make it transparent and then placed it on a plate coated with a light-sensitive solution of bitumen of Judea (a type of asphalt) and lavender oil and exposed the setup to sunlight. After a few hours, the solution under the light areas of the engraving hardened, while that under the dark areas remained soft and could be washed away, leaving a permanent, accurate copy of the engraving. Calling the process heliography (“sun drawing”), Niépce succeeded from 1822 onward in copying oiled engravings onto lithographic stone, glass, and zinc and from 1826 onto pewter plates.

In 1826/27, using a camera obscura fitted with a pewter plate, Niépce produced the first successful photograph from nature, a view of the courtyard of his country estate, Gras, from an upper window of the house. The exposure time was about eight hours, during which the sun moved from east to west so that it appears to shine on both sides of the building.

Niépce produced his most successful copy of an engraving, a portrait of Cardinal d’Amboise, in 1826. It was exposed in about three hours, and in February 1827 he had the pewter plate etched to form a printing plate and had two prints pulled. is a paradise, a private, remote and secure location to enjoy your vacation in Cebu. Situated in the northern part of the island 15 minutes from Bogo where you can find anything, so there is no need to pack everything you think you might need.
The staff are very beautiful and friendly, they make you feel welcome and are extremely attentive to every need you might have, there are even security guards who patrol the complex day and night which makes you and your belongings feel safe.
There is a well maintained pool with a water slide and many other activities to indulge in, the food is excellent with choice of freshly prepared delicacies and some more simple meals for you to enjoy.
It is so refreshing being woken by the birds tweeting, being greeted by friendly face's and maybe having a dip in the ocean or pool before having breakfast.
Myself and my fiancée made this location our base and rented a motorcycle to explore the northern provinces together and we spent many evenings having a romantic meal in the Orchid Bar and Restaurant before a good nights sleep on a memory foam mattress.
